Tomato

Tomato is a vegetable whose road through history was not easy and filled with numerous misconceptions and roadblocks. Finally in the last few centuries this Turkish plant managed to spread all across the world, becoming one of the best know food ingredients and one of the most beloved vegetables (even though technically its classified as a fruit). Selective breeding managed to refine tomato into very nutritious state, filled with vitamin A, C, E, antioxidants, and more.
Volumes of tomatoes processed by the Turkish industry can vary considerably from one year to the next: over the past five years, quantities varied between 1.2 and 2.7 million metric tonnes (mT), averaging about 2.1 million mT. For 2018, initial intentions amounted to 1.5 million mT, but the season's results will probably be lower than that, at about 1.3 million mT.
